My God is an awesome God

Friday April 01, 2005 - 05:28 am

I'd like everyone to know that I've had a life-changing moment. Thanks in large part to the wonder that is Christian Rock. I was minding my own business when a coworker played a tape with some mind-blowing music. Probably the most influential of these songs was one by Jaci Velasquez. Take a look at the lyrics, and I think you'll be just as convinced.

'Cause I've learned in laughter or in pain
How to survive
I get on my knees
I get on my knees
There I am before the love
That changes me
See I don't know how
But there's power
When I'm on my knees
I can be in a crowd
Or by myself almost anywhere
When I feel there's a need

I think I'm going to spend a whole lot more time on my knees from now on. And I suggest that you all do the same. It can change your life!

Man, back in my high school days, I listened to Jaci Velazquez, like, non-stop. I even bought Heavenly Place, one of her albums. I've still got it on MP3.

The best part about her is that she's pretty fly.

Chris: Glad to hear your coworkers are playing you Christian music. Unfortunately, most Christian music sucks, and I'm saying this as a person who listens to a fair amount of it. I guess the sort of people who listen to it are willing to forgive sucky music if the songwriter's heart is in the right place. Fortunately, though, there are a bunch of Christian bands and singers whose music doesn't suck. I suggest: GOT STARTED IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC Switchfoot Stacie Orrico MxPx STILL IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC GENRE Ginny Owens Paul Alan Jars of Clay You may want to suggest a couple of these artists to your coworker, if only to protect yourself from overhearing sucky music.

Dave: How about never trust a Christian? Am I being too much of a dick now?

Lance: Yes, Jaci is pretty fly. And she has quite the voice, too. It's just a shame she uses it to blab on about Jesus and God and suchery. What a waste.

Meg: There's not a doubt in my mind.

Shaun: I'm glad to see you admit that the majority of Christian Rock plain sucks. And I'm willing to admit there is some that I like. Particularly, Switchfoot. I guess you got me onto that one. MxPx is okay, Jars of Clay suck and I can't say much about the others, since I've not heard their stuff. Also, I don't plan on even talking about the horrid music he played. Like a first-grader who just peed his pants, I'm just going to hope it goes away.

I haven't heard the statement "Such and such band sucks" since junior high. I also haven't listened to Christian music since junior high (when I mainly listened to Jars of Clay, Audio Adrenaline, Prayer Chain, Sonicflood, Jaci Velasquez, Out of Eden, and the like). And Lance is right, Jaci is pretty gorgeous. Ahh, memories.
