And then they de-feathered Chief Skipping Deer

It's not just the white man that's keeping gay people down anymore. The Navajo Nation has also decided to ban gay marriage, because—I can only assume—they want to play the oppressor for once. When one of the most persecuted races of all time starts trampling on human rights, that's really saying something about the current state of affairs in the world.

Marriage is not a human right, per se: Otherwise, I would have the right to marry my sister or mother (or father or brother, I guess), and I would have the right to marry however many people I want.

When you try to define marriage as a human right, without reference to God or pesky details like procreation, you generally end up with "legal recognition of two people who love each other."

But that begs all sorts of questions: Why does the love have to be sexual love? Why can't polyamourous groups marry? What happens when the couple falls out of love -- if they remain married, aren't they, strictly speaking, "cheating the system"?

It reminds me of that T-Mobile "Couples Talk Free" commercial:
Customer: Do you have to be married?
Catherine Zeta-Jones: No.
Customer: Do you have to live together?
Catherine Zeta-Jones: No.
Customer: Do you have to know each other?
Catherine Zeta-Jones: That would help.

And anyway, on a less reverent note, the Navajo are a dying race ... they have a substantial interest in encouraging procreative sex.

Perhaps "human right" wasn't the best phrase. More precisely, my point is that the Navajo are acting in favor of inequality before the law.
